Chickens

Pineland Farms is home to many different breeds of chickens.  Many of our chickens lay brown eggs.  Eggs can come in a variety of colors ranging from white to pastel greens and blues.  The Araucana is a bird originating in Chile that lays eggs varying in color from turquoise to deep olive shades.  These eggs are also lower in cholesterol than the average store-bought brown or white eggs.

Barred Rocks, Hampshires and Gold Comets are the most common chickens you will see at Pineland Farms.  The Barred Rock is the first poultry breed imported to the colonies by the Pilgrims.  You might notice all the different sizes of the chickens as well.  Pineland Farms owns bantam and standard breed chickens.  A bantam is a small chicken, usually one-fourth the size of the standard varieties. You might also notice that Pineland Farms has chickens with feathers on their feet!  When they have feathers on their feet, they are called cochin.
