Farming

Pineland Farms has undertaken an aggressive and committed approach to farming, based upon the following basic principles:

  1. Build (or rebuild) the most efficient barns possible.
  2. Employ smart, professional farmers who are committed to local Maine agriculture. We believe farming techniques must advance to keep farms in Maine viable as a food source.
  3. Continue to breed the very best animals possible and to accept nothing short of superior results.

Our hope is that those sharing our commitment to excellence in agriculture will find Pineland Farms an ideal supplier of fresh farm goods, as well as a place to visit.

The registered livestock owned by Pineland Farms and raised for breeding, education and production purposes includes Holstein dairy cows, Angus beef cattle, Polled Dorset sheep and Icelandic sheep. Pineland also owns llamas, chickens and a draft horse.

In addition to animal operations, Pineland Farms is creating superior research and educational opportunities in Maine by aligning its operations with universities, other farmers, educators and biotechnology businesses. Our farming internships, "Calves for College" program and the Northeast Katahdin Hair Sheep Project [weblink] are some of the fascinating examples of the education and research based initiatives underway at Pineland Farms.
